If you want to get your hands on the higher-speed interface of HSC and
you're
using a little older Emerald-class HP 3000, you still can take a direct
upgrade path in
most cases.
Customers who have Series 992 and Series 995 HP 3000s can upgrade straight to the new Series 997s available this fall. Series 992 sites will need to replace battery backup units with Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS). Upgrades from Series 995 to Series 997 with a single processor will cost $70,000, and moving from a Series 992 to Series 997 is $80,000. HP doesn't have a direct path from Series 990 or Series 991 systems to the 997s; those customers will have to upgrade first to the Series 996 and then to the 997.
