An all-3000 enterprise backup solution has surfaced While Legato’s Networker still needs an NT or Unix server to control 3000 backups, Hi-Comp (281.288.7438) released Hiback TX, new MPE/iX software that lets the 3000 be both client and server for enterprise backups. Hiback has run on 3000s for several years, but the new version is more closely integrated into Hi-Comp’s enterprise solution. It uses standard TurboStore API calls to enable backups, administered through a Windows GUI. This lets the 3000 can have its backups sent to its local devices, or stored on remote devices such as StorageTek silos and DLT libraries attached to other Hiback servers.
