SSA still being evaluated at HP

New HP 3000 Product Marketing Manager Vicky Symonds gave us an update on support for the SSA disk array topology. We had heard the faster, lower-cost IBM technology, already ported for MPE/iX, might be ready for HP’s strategy. It may be a while longer, since HP already has ties with EMC for RAID on the 3000, and FibreChannel in the wings. “We don’t necessarily bless it, but we accept it,” Symonds said. “We are still evaluating it in terms of our overall solutions, and being careful about not having too much contention within the solutions we’re trying to provide. EMC still maintains, in our opinion, the dominant space in terms of high-end array protection. In no way do we want to jeopardize that relationship. There are still some customers who are looking at SSA, and I think at least it’s important that we look at it to understand whether or not it at least does what it advertises.”
