Speedware enhanced Autobahn for Web development

Late in October the HP 3000 software and services firm Speedware, Ltd. announced the release of latest edition of its enterprise Web development platform, Speedware Autobahn II Version 5.00. The software runs under MPE/iX as well as with HP-UX and Windows environments.

Not many revisions of MPE/iX development suites and tools have surfaced during the last year. Speedware is providing enhancements that its customers have been requesting, the vendor said. For more than nine years its customers have been using Autobahn to develop large-scale enterprise Web applications. Autobahn users can create secure, scalable and robust Web applications, at what Speedware calls “a fraction of the price of competitive enterprise development tools.”

Autobahn developers can design and test applications from within a single program. Speedware said that the Version 5.00 of the software now has new features and functionality such as:

• The ability to prelaunch Speedware sessions, eliminating start-up delays at run time.

• Load Balancer, an optional component that lets applications run against multiple servers while balancing the load on each;

• A new Frames Editor to create and modify Web programs that use HTML frames;

• Full support for the IMAGE-workalike Eloquence database on HP-UX and Windows, as well as support for Omnidex with Eloquence and Omnidex with relational databases such as Oracle;

• A new facility that allows application objects to be merged with another application, and;

• Improvements to the Application Map interface and syntax help in the Code Editor, and better tools to help debug compilation and runtime errors. Registered customers can download the newest version at www.speedware.com/sws.
