HP works on reinstating Advanced Telnet services

HP support engineer Damian Coffey reported that the Advanced Telnet protocol — faster than the current Telnet installed on most e3000s when communicating across continental distances — is slated to be re-introduced with the next set of Telnet patches.

In a posting to the Internet, Coffey said that on MPE/iX 6.0, the enhancement was introduced with PTDFDT3(A) “I” patch, was removed with PTDFDW9(A) “J” patch, and not included with the subsequent K and L patches, PTDFDY5(A) and PTDGD17(A).

On 6.5, it was introduced with PTDFDT4(A) “C” patch, removed with PTDFDX0(A) “D” patch, and not included with the subsequent “E” patch, PTDGD18(A).

HP re-introduced the Advanced Telnet services on MPE/iX 7.0 base release. Unless a customer has applied the 7.0 patch PTDGD64(A), the functionality remains in 7.0. A problem with passwords echoing to the screen has been reported when an HP 3000 with standard Telnet installed tries to communicate with a 3000 which is running Advanced Telnet.
