Open Directory Project elevates HP 3000 data

One of the best human-compiled Web directories now has better links to the HP 3000 community, as the Open Directory Project has moved HP 3000s up to a level that elevates the system’s visibility on sites like Yahoo! and Alta Vista. Netscape’s Open Directory Project is a human-edited search engine that lets users review and categorize sites. ODP has more than 24,000 contributors who manage more than 1.7 million Web sites, divided into 260,000 categories — one of which is the HP 3000, now only two levels from the top of the ODP.

The proximity to the top of the ODP is important to gain visibility for the platform, according to editor Cortlandt Wilson, one of the 24,000 contributors. Wilson encourages HP 3000 solution suppliers and information resources to browse to dmoz.org/Computers/Systems/HP_3000 to submit their entries for the directory, whose contents are used by major search engines.
