IBM invited 3000 sites to look at COMMON ground

Alternatives to the 3000 platform had another venue set for early May. The IBM iSeries server users will meet May 2-6 in San Antonio at COMMON’s spring user group show. IBM was touting a few more converts to the iSeries from the HP 3000 ranks in the weeks leading up to the COMMON show, showing off its ability to attract 3000 sites during an IBM press event announcing the Power5 CPU architecture. HP may have turned the chip business over to Intel, but IBM is still developing processors. The 3000 converts included Memory Experts International, a computer memory manufacturer based in Montreal; liquor distributor Block/Goldring of San Antonio; and Christie Digital, a video projector manufacturer from Cypress, Calif. Sign up for the COMMON show — which will remind managers of the 3000’s part in conferences of 10 years ago in size and scope — at common.org/conferences/conf.html.
