DDS-1 tapes will arrive no more

HP is solving its HP 3000 operating system release tape problem, announcing that after July it will no longer ship its update DAT cartridges in DDS-1 format. Customers noted during March that their HP tapes wouldn’t mount on the newer DDS-2, DDS-3 and DDS-4 tape drives. HP went to all-DDS-3 devices with A-Class and N-Class systems. 7.0 Express 1 and 6.5 Express 3 updates brought the problem to the surface. The 7.5 release this September will be the first in the new DDS-2 format, which the DDS-1 units don’t read.
