7.5 will be on its way by next year

In several presentations from HP at the HP World conference, managers and engineers referred to the next mainline release of MPE/iX as having a mid-2002 delivery date. HP is numbering the release 7.5, according to one manager, moving away from the “mainline means .0” numbering of years past. 7.5 is expected to have a bundled Secure Web Server in its toolkit, as well as more upgrades to Samba/iX. R&D manager Dave Wilde said that Fibre Channel support, and working with the PA-8700 processors, are next in line for lab priorities. Fibre Channel was promised for end of 2002; PA-8700 chips aren’t yet scheduled.
