The Spring Fling discounts flow through Fall for some 9x7 owners

Still on a mission to get its many 9x7 sites onto newer hardware, HP extended its Spring Fling discount program an extra three months to Oct. 31, hoping to encourage hardware upgrades to its 9x9 servers. HP added the Series 957 to the program which discounts the license fee HP charges for moving the operating system and HP databases to a newer server. There’s an up-front credit of 10 to 28 percent against MPE/iX, IMAGE/SQL and Allbase/SQL. Only Series 957, 967, 977, 987, 987/150 or 987/200 servers can be traded in under the Fling program.

Trade-ins must be a functioning, currently-used server, with required memory and storage configurations and valid user licenses. The new server must be a Series 939/030, 979/x00, 989KS/x00, or 989/x50, and customers must purchase HP support and a minimum user license (64-user minimum for the 939/030; a 100-user license for 979s and 989s). Series 929 and 969 purchases are not eligible for the Fling discounts. Customers can also add the TradeUp 2000 Hardware rebate ($3,000 for a Series 957 return, and up to $12,500 for 987/150 and 987/200 returns) to the Fling discounts. HP has announced all of its 9x7 Series systems will go off HP support in April of 2002.
