HP is making Y2K-safe MPE V available

3kworld.com reported that it’s not too late for 3000 sites using MPE V (3P and 4.0) Classic 3000s to get a Y2K Safe version of the operating system, even if they missed the September 30, 1998 deadline. The 3000 Web portal operated by North American distributor Client Systems and sponsors, used its internal HP connections to learn that HP has a new program to bring Classic customers up to date, being run by Allan Hertling at HP. HP is offering a “safe” version of the older MPE, not to be confused with “compliant,” since the Classic systems are no longer supported by HP officially. Y2K Safe only means the software will operate in a defined and predictable manner when using date beyond the year 2000. Hertling will handle all cases and needs to hear from customers as soon as possible (contact him at 916.785.9445). You’ll need to know your current MPE-V version, which SUBSYS products are on your systems, and which version (3P or 4.0) you want to go to. HP says you may want to go to 4.0 for the latest patch bundle. Hertling will coordinate the information to determine what update media and Communicator to send you.
