New HP e3000 systems are ready for takeoff

There is no official word yet on the release of the first N-Class servers for e3000 customers, but loose talk among the 3000 community points to a very early February rollout. We note that HP’s Bridge and e-Genius discount programs both expire on Jan. 31, and we believe there’s more convergence with that date than just the end of HP’s first fiscal quarter. What’s expected is the 7.0 version of MPE/iX and the first hardware models which use the PCI bus, bringing 10-times improvement for throughput with the latter and the first PA-8600 processors. Meanwhile, the 7.0 version will hasten the end of the supported lifespan for the 9x7 HP 3000s.
