Printronix sets a deal to sell through North American e3000 outlets

The evolution of HP’s line printer business took another step at the HP World conference, when manufacturer Printronix announced HP’s authorized North American resellers will be selling the P5000LJ series replacement for the LineJets. Similar arrangements are under discussion in Europe, according to Printronix HP Channel Sales Director Hank Schmidt. The company was still waiting on a reply to its proposal that HP support both LineJets and the Printronix replacements, but Schmidt was hopeful.

“What we really want is to have a solution that makes the most sense for the user,” Schmidt said. “We’ve invited HP to provide service for our version of the LineJet as well as their own. We’re in active discussions to make that happen, and I’m very optimistic based on the feedback we’re getting that’s going to happen.”

Aside from replacing the HP label with a Printronix label, the LineJet series and the P5000J Series are identical, according to Printronix’s Andrew Scherz. Support for the HP 3000 required “a lot of customization,” Scherz said, “and we had to get that all that in shape when we got together with HP in the first place. This product is very unique for the 3000.” Support for the PJL protocol and the 3000’s Page Level Recovery are the two items which Printronix did the most engineering on to support the HP e3000 in these printers.
