Expect some progress in the homestead options at HP World

After a late August briefing from HP’s post-2006 manager for HP 3000 affairs — yes, there is someone at HP tasked to make decisions about the company’s impact on the system beyond HP’s end of support date — the chairman of OpenMPE Inc. board of directors was sworn to non-disclosure in the weeks leading up to this year’s North American user conference. But OpenMPE’s Jon Backus said that customers looking for answers on what HP will do to help those not migrating will find the Wednesday, Sept. 25 meetings in Los Angeles “well worth their while to attend.”

Loose talk among leaders in the 3000 user community reported that HP’s list of actions it will take on behalf of homesteaders was substantial, but not complete. And then after OpenMPE and Interex user group leaders got their briefings, HP’s 3000 business group had to get legal and higher corporate approval for what’s being proposed. Customers will get the high level intentions at the speech Dave Wilde’s giving at HP World Wednesday afternoon at 2, with more details to be delivered at the OpenMPE meeting starting at 4PM. We’ll have a report available Thursday morning at the NewsWire’s Web sites.
