You can hear beans grinding for 3000 Java this summer

A Java component for HP 3000s got picked up by a notable client in the 3000 community, indication that the technology is finding a home among MPE/iX systems. David Thatcher of Advanced Network Systems (ANSI) said that his VPlus+ product, which delivers a Java-in-browser front end to replace VPlus screens, got purchased by a Hewlett-Packard division. Thatcher reports that “HP is embarking on a full blown development using VPlus+. They are going to use it to place a Java front-end on their existing World Wide Order Processing System.”

He also said that HP is also going into beta test on a couple of other ANSI products, a Visual Basic version of the tools and its soon to be released TurboBeans. The latter is a JavaBeans implementation that uses the Adager ADBC technology, It’s been promised several times, but now ANSI has partnered with another company “to help optimize our current ADBC implementation,” Thatcher said. “This company specializes in Object Oriented Programming (OOP), and network connectivity. We are trimming any leftover fat from our ADBC implementation. We want a lean and mean product before we continue with our ADBC beans. We currently have an expert Bean programmer working on this who has published two books on JavaBeans.”
