See JDBC for the 3000 demoed next month

The Java Database Connectivity middleware for HP 3000s is already far enough along to have a demonstration at HP World, as Minisoft gets its oars in the water first. In this JDBC regatta, we can see several entries at the marina – Minisoft’s, which we’d handicap as starting first to market; HP’s, probably a longer time in coming and with fewer features, just like their ODBC solution; and then there’s one promised from ANSI, maybe with a peek at demo code at HP World. You can definitely look over the Minisoft offering on the show floor in San Diego, with a version promised for sale in the summer. (Minisoft was in beta test with the code this month, according to founder Doug Greenup.) Customers like Long’s Drug say that Java will be a lot more useful and less of a performance hog on their 3000s once JDBC gets in place.
