Get a support discount
through a real reseller

HP 3000 customers can ask for a special deal on their support pricing while ordering systems, but only if you buy from the right places. It’s called 3Y3 by name, and you’ll only get it if you’re working with an authorized HP hardware channel partner – brokers who resell used systems don’t qualify. Rick Hupe of Telenomics, (800.328.1177) a supplier of call management software for HP 3000s, noted that resellers like his firm can use 3Y3 to extend the initial discount on the system purchased, cutting the cost of HP maintenance over all three years for the system. That means that if you get a 20 percent break on the cost of the system, HP will write you a support contract at 80 percent of the regular price for years two and three of the contract.

Hupe noted that the current HP discounts on licensing fees in upgrades to 9x9s are making a big difference in winning customers. “We took business away from a couple of brokers with those deals, just because we had the discounts on the software,” he said. It’s important when dealing to look for a way to reward your application suppliers with the hardware part of the sale, if the prices are close or comparable. These are the companies keeping the 3000 viable in the market. Customers also might want to remember that when buying brokered systems, the licenses for the MPE/iX software included need to be legally transferred – a step that can sometimes get overlooked.
