The 3000 will serve domains with support

HP took another step to make the 3000 a master of its own domains at IPROF, announcing it will support the BIND/iX Domain Name Server (DNS) with the 6.0 version of MPE/iX. The software has been available for 3000s as unsupported freeware since last year, a port by Mark Bixby of Coast Community College. Getting a supported version of DNS means customers who want to put HP 3000s on intranets, or even the Internet, don’t have to use less reliable PCs or more complex Unix systems as gateways to the IP network. An all-3000 network on Internets will be possible with BIND/iX.
