Telamon shows
monitor product
at HP World

HP datacenter solution provider Telamon showed off TelaConsole at HP World, software that runs on a PC and can monitor multiple systems including HP 3000s. The product can look for a given text string then display that line in another color or in a separate window, as well as page or e-mail staff to notify them of a selected event or message from the system. Administrators wire a host's consoles to the PC, and can use 'Y' splitters to keep a separate physical console. TelaConsole then captures the data stream and logs it. It can handle up to 32 hosts.

The product will filter out messages which operators don't need to watch, such as non-informational messages more common to Unix systems than HP 3000s. It will trap on text (like "SYSTEM ABORT") and take an automatic action, including calling Telamon’s TelAlert to page staff or reboot the system). Canned help/procedures for specific text can be presented as well, so operators have a pop-up procedure manual.

The product’s focus is simplifying an operator’s experience in managing multiple systems, with a secondary emphasis on automating operations. For example, it sets up separate windows which show only information that is important — such as a window for only tape mount requests, or printer forms mounts, or one for system aborts. Lines in the windows can be color coded and prefixed to help identify the host where the message originated. Telamon is in final beta testing for the product.
