Transact gets more open this fall

Two significant enhancements to Transact have been submitted for MPE/iX 6.5, the next available release vehicle, and they are available now as General Release patches for MPE/iX 5.5 and 6.0. The patches make up the “Open Transact” enhancement, which allows Transact to import the file IDs of files opened by a calling program in another language, and support for IMAGE B-trees. The patch numbers are TRXKXV0 for the compiler patch and TRRKXU9 for the run-time patch. The documentation for these will be in the Communicator for 6.5,” reported SIGRAPID correspondent Cecile Chi. “Preliminary descriptions, which are probably sufficient, were distributed at IPROF in February. Steve Dirickson, SIGRAPID chairman, is also a resource for information on Open Transact, since he proposed the enhancement and originally described what it should do. Steve may be contacted at sdiricks@oz.net.” Chi also noted a Tranact-related SR posted against IMAGE, SR 8606100104: B-trees cannot reposition within a superchain reliably when using wildcard retrieval in a verb with a PERFORM= option. The workaround is to use a workfile.
