PowerHouse customers can expect migration-ready versions soon

Sites that use the Cognos development language PowerHouse should see a new version by early April, according to the product manager Bob Deskin. Version 8.49D has support for the TurboIMAGE workalike database Eloquence as one of its chief enhancements. The software is being engineered for easing migrations, according to Deskin.

“Since the end-of-support on the HP e3000 has been announced, we’ve found that most customers are interested in the features on HP-UX and Windows NT/2000/XP rather than MPE/iX,” he said. “Many of the new features in this release are of interest to customers planning on migrating to either HP-UX or Windows NT/2000/XP. This release will support the Eloquence database from Marxmeier on HP-UX and Windows NT/2000/XP. We are supporting the features that allow Eloquence to be an IMAGE work-alike. This means that PowerHouse customers using IMAGE have an easier path to the leading migration candidates (HP-UX and Windows).”

Cognos is also introducing Quick on Windows NT/2000/XP. “This allows the smaller HP e3000 customer to seriously consider Windows NT/2000/XP as a migration target,” Deskin said. “With a few minor visual differences due to the environment, Quick on Windows NT/2000/XP works just like Quick on the other platforms. Generic PowerHouse code is completely portable.” Cognos has also enhanced its KSAM-64 file support, and added support of IBM’s DB2 database (for Unix and Windows) and the DISAM indexed file system for Windows.
