WRQ added advances in FTP technology in Reflection

WRQ released the latest version of its Reflection connectivity software on May 10, building on its proxy server enhancements from 2003. The new secure FTP capability in Reflection for HP with NS/VT provides a secure way to transfer files to and from HP 3000s. The software also adds UTF-8 (Unicode) host character-set support, the ability to work with TAPI 3.0 network protocol support. TAPI provides convergence of both traditional PSTN telephony and IP Telephony, an emerging set of technologies that enables voice, data, and video collaboration over existing LANs, WANs and the Internet.

In the latest version of Reflection HP for NS/VT, users can drag-and-drop file transfers directly to the desktop. SSL/TLS encryption now works with FTP file transfers, and users also have an option for secure file transfer via the SFTP protocol. Programming and automation include simplifying management with the ability to output VBA-macros from VB.NET and C# (.NET), and share those VBA-macros.

The company also announced that it will curtail support of its older versions starting in October. Versions 9.0 of Reflection or older — the latest release is Version 12 — won’t have phone or e-mail support available for those Windows-based products. WRQ will remove technical notes from its Web site for Windows-based Reflection 8.x and Reflection for the Web 4.1. WRQ is advising its customers to migrate to Windows 2000 or XP, saying that it’s the only way to ensure that Reflection will continue operating at peak performance.

The company, which founded its business on the HP 3000 community in 1981, said that legacy systems still make up an important part of its business. “Over the past 23 years, WRQ has essentially redefined how businesses interact with host systems,” said Shaun Wolfe, president and COO at WRQ. “Reflection’s advanced security and management capabilities hit the mark for our customers in terms of priority business challenges, enabling them to protect their mission-critical legacy data as well as lower costs and save time managing and working with these key systems.”
