ScreenJet’s new utility moves KSAM files into AcuCOBOL

A new utility from ScreenJet Ltd. will read the format of HP 3000 KSAM files and transfer the data into the Vision file system that’s part of ACUCOBOL-GT, the integrated development system. COBOL II program that are recompiled with ACUCOBOL-GT will be able to utilize either KSAM or Vision files on the HP 3000, but ScreenJet’s CEO Alan Yeo said that when applications are migrated to other platforms, the KSAM file system is no longer available. Due to the high level of compatibility between ACUCOBOL-GT and HP COBOL II, migrated application code can access the Vision file system in exactly the same way that KSAM files were accessed on the HP3000, no code changes are required.

“We have made a significant investment in developing conversion tools to help people migrate VPLUS from the HP3000 using ACUCOBOL-GT and Acucorp’s other HP e3000 solutions,” said Yeo. “Whilst there are now many tools to help people migrate TurboIMAGE to other database options, KSAM has been forgotten.” K2Vision will process either NM or CM KSAM file formats on the 3000. The utility will be downloadable directly from www.screenjet.com and retails for $375 US as a standalone utility. But it will also be included as a complimentary product with the ScreenJet VPLUS to AcuBench conversion tool. ScreenJet will also be running free customer conversion tests via their Web site. Users can store a KSAM file, upload it, and the file will be automatically converted and the requestor notified when the generated Vision files are available for download. Acucorp’s Joe Sieley said ScreenJet’s product helps “developers retain their HP COBOL assets while exposing them to new platforms, environments, and languages.”
