The 3000 division took its compilers’ future into its own hands

HP mentioned at HP World that some of the compilers for the 3000 are going back under the wing of the 3000 Commercial Systems Division (CSY). Customers are viewing the shift as a good thing, a change transparent to developers and users but important to keeping the 3000’s compiler technology more current. The Software Services Group will continue to work on the products, but now they will be part of the CSY plans for the 3000 (and, we presume, better-funded from inside the division.) The plan offers continuity — engineers who have worked with the software stay on the project — as well as new motivation to move forward. HP says the affected compilers are COBOL/iX, C/iX, Fortran/77 and HP Pascal/iX.
