VA arrays get discontinue date after HP merger

As part of HP’s merger with Compaq, the VA7100 and VA7400 virtual storage arrays have been earmarked for obsolescence in 18 to 24 months. The disk devices, which HP only made compatible with the MPE/iX environment last fall, are expected to be discontinued in favor of a Compaq storage product according to the company’s product roadmap.

HP plans to make changes to the Compaq StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) to scale that product down to a better fit for midrange computing environments. HP’s XP disk arrays will survive the merger, and all storage products will be offered through a new Network Storage Solutions division.
