Nothing’s perfect, not even the latest MPE/iX

Users continued to report bugs in the 6.0 version of MPE/iX that was automatically shipped to every HP 3000 customer on current support. The new user job queues feature has a bug in its error handling for streaming a job into a queue that doesn’t exist. The queues will deliver a warning, but stream the job anyway and let it sit in a wait state. Users report the job than cannot be aborted without shutting down the HP 3000. The systems don’t let anyone create job queues after the fact.

Other reports continue to surface on the state of VPlus in the 6.0 release. As we reported in our January issue, VPlus isn’t strictly Y2K compliant in its 6.0 version. Now customers are reporting that VSETNEXTCENTURY sometimes gets ignored when entering the date 02/29/00. A beta-test patch to fix this, VPLKXL6C, was available at the HP Electronic Support Center Web site at presstime. When searching ESC, specify the OTHER option instead of 5.0 or 5.5 and you should see General Release patches.
